The Newton Aycliffe-based UK arm of a Swedish manufacturing giant has said it is “well positioned in attractive markets” after reporting an increase in turnover in its latest accounts, although pre-tax profits dipped.
Husqvarna UK can trace its roots back to the 1600s and specialises in garden power tools such as lawnmowers, grass trimmers, leaf blowers and pressure washers.
The UK business makes grass cutting and garden machinery for sale in the region and internationally, and also sells products and services through UK dealers and retailers.
Newly filed accounts for the year to 31 December 2021 revealed that turnover jumped from £208m to £228.5m.
However, pre-tax profit fell from £8.1m to £6.2m, while operating profits slipped from £8.3m to £5.1m.
A report alongside the results said that the directors were “satisfied” with the company’s trading performance.
It explained that demand for forest and garden products, which represent the majority of total sales, are “highly seasonal”, meaning that sales in the northern hemisphere normally culminate during the end of the first quarter and during the second quarter.
Demand for forestry products tend to be higher during the second half of the year.
Husqvarna added that is has steady underlying growth, which is boosted by a “strong presence in a number of high-growth market segments” including robotic lawn mowers, battery-powered products and garden care and growing segments in the light construction industry.
Looking ahead, the business said that it will continue with its strategy to improve profitability and drive growth, which has already been supported by “restructuring activities and major investments to strengthen the groups market and technical leadership”.
